iPhone OS 3.2 Features: Video Conferencing in iPhone 4G and iPad

Steve Jobs surely didn’t tell us everything about the iPad when it was unveiled last Wednesday. This must be part of his business strategy to keep some of these features for the future version of iPad, just like what they did with the original iPhone, iPhone 3G and then 3GS. Although iPad does not include a camera in its current configuration, but Apple at least has laid the foundation for one in the iPhone OS 3.2 SDK . Interestingly, Engadget has confirmed with some extremely trusted dev sources that iPhone OS 3.2 contains rudimentary support for video calling. Apart from this, support for SMS and phone calling has also been discovered running on the iPad Simulator found in iPhone OS 3.2 SDK. Some of the features that have been found in iPhone OS 3.2 SDK includes: Support for Video Conferencing Some sort of multitasking File downloads, uploads and local storage via web browser (Mobile Safari) Landscape orientation of the homescreen Phone calls and SMS capability for iPad (3G models only). Spell checker in all text fields with multiple dictionaries and user added entries Included dictionaries: Apple Dictionary, New Oxford American Dictionary, Oxford American Writer’s Thesaurus, Shogakukan Daijisen, Shogakukan Progressive English-Japanese Japanese-English Dictionary, and Shogakukan Ruigo Reikai Jiten (may also be used for a Dictionary app perhaps?) Richer text support for apps Ability to selectively draw to external displays (via VGA) Handwriting keyboard (for the rumored stylus perhaps?) Location aware ads in Maps. These features found in the SDK strongly suggests that video conferencing along with multitasking may be coming along down the road for the iPad, and perhaps for the next-gen iPhone as well. Adidas 118PRO Rugby: Aussie conditions

Purpose built for Australian conditions iris Sydney has created a campaign for the new adidas 118PRO football boot - a boot specifically designed for the Australian market. The campaign is based on the insight that there’s one thing that all football codes in Australia have in common: the hard fields on which they’re played. No matter what level you play at, all football pitches are like concrete. But with its EVA wedge, adiPRENE heel, and TRAXION sole, the 118PRO has been designed to protect and support the foot in all these conditions. Windows Home Server Vail CTP4 Leaks, Includes a Built-in App Store

The next version of Windows Home Server codename “Vail” has been leaked online. This version of WHS is based on Windows Server 2008 R2 , unlike the previous version which was based on WS2003 code. As a result, UI has got a significant facelift and it now looks more or less like Windows 7 because of the “Desktop Experience” of WS2008R2, which is installed and enabled by default on WHS “Vail”. The download description states the following. “Out of the box, Vail provides simple file sharing, remote access, home computer backup, expandable storage through Drive Extender, and media streaming both inside and outside the home. Vail also contains an application catalog and product-wide extensibility model so that new services such as anti-virus, online sharing, and home automation can be seamlessly and easily added to the solution.” “Vail” will be pre-installed on OEM systems like HP MediaSmart Server just like any previous version of Windows Home Server. Robert McLaws who gave “Vail” a shot found a built-in App Store (Online Add-in Catalog) in the operating system which is perhaps going to provide all the add-ins for Windows Home Server Console. The App Store however at this CTP stage isn’t operational yet. Additionally, “Vail” has the following characteristics (courtesy Windows-Now ): Built on the RTM bits of Windows Server 2008 R2. Two flavors: HOMESTANDARD and HOMEPREMIUM Requires x64 Processor. A minimum of 160GB primary hard drive. Server “Desktop Experience” is installed OOB (example Aero, Media). Built-In HomeGroup Support (like Windows 7 and unlike Windows Server 2008 R2) WHS Console is now the “Dashboard” and has a cleaner Add-In model (all pages are now AddIns). Online catalog for add-ins hosted by Microsoft. “Recorded TV” option in the folders but absent from deeper media integration. It seems that WHS now backs itself up. Here is another screenshot from the web interface of the upcoming Windows Home Server “Vail”. WHS “Vail” requires a system with at least 2Ghz x64 processor, 1GB of RAM, and a minimum of 120GB HDD. Here is a video walkthrough which shows lots of new enhancements in this upcoming server operating. The bits for WHS “Vail” can be downloaded from your favorite content hubs. eBooks Price War Between Apple and Amazon Begins

The birth of iPad on January 27 has created waves all over the tech. world. In a sudden and surprise move, noticed Friday evening by many bloggers, books from Macmillan, one of the largest publishers in the United States, have been removed from Amazon.com. The disappearance came in the wake of a dispute between Amazon.com and different book publishers that have been brewing between them for the last year or so. Macmillan, like other publishers, demanded Amazon to raise the price of electronic books from $9.99 to $15. Amazon expressed its strong disagreement reacted by temporarily removing Macmillan books. If this doesn’t signal the upcoming eBooks/price war between Apple and Amazon? then I wonder what will. The real cause of the dispute was that the content provider Macmillan wanted more financial control over its content, which Amazon didn’t happen to agree with. Macmillan has now taken head-on the overwhelmingly dominant service provider Amazon by now temporarily selling the content on its own terms. Steve Jobs has already told some publishers that books in the iBooks store would cost the same as they do for the Kindle, and if WSJ is right about the $15 price point recommended by Apple for publishers, it wont be long before many major publishers like Macmillan starts moving from Amazon’s platform to Apple’s. In either case, this eBooks war seems very interesting and one to really watch out for. Apple iPad was unveiled by Steve Jobs earlier this week in a mega event held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. Apple iPad Will be Available for Pre-Order?

Sources close to ModMyI have confirmed that the newly announced iPad will be soon available for Pre-Order. This news bit comes from a close contact of the mentioned source, who seems to be working at either Apple, or a partner store gearing up for the launch of one of the most hyped product from Apple in the recent times. My store manager gave our store a little briefing on the upcoming iPad launch, and he said that customers WILL be able to pre-order and reserve iPad devices. Apple has not announced this yet, or put it in motion. They are waiting until all the correct systems are in place. The source also claims that the delay of seven weeks before the WiFi model is available in retail is because of the lack of FCC authorization of the said device. The original iPhone was approved by Federal Communications Commission about a month after Apple announced it back in 2007. Apple iPad was unveiled by Steve Jobs earlier this week in a mega event held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. Since the product hasn’t been approved by FCC yet, it is still subject to some changes: Some features and applications are not available in all areas. Application availability and pricing are subject to change. This device has not yet been authorized as required by the rules of the Federal Communications Commission. This device is not, and may not be, offered for sale or lease, or sold or leased, until authorization is obtained. Dual Boot Windows Mobile and Android

Last month, we informed you about an emulation software named Haret which enabled Windows phones to run Android OS side by side with Windows Mobile 6.x. This solution required booting into Windows Mobile first, before you could run Android using Haret. But now, some folks at XDA-Developers have released a new software/tool named Gen.Y DualBOOT which enables Windows phone users to dual boot Windows Mobile and Android OS on the very same handset. Gen.Y DualBOOT supports WVGA, VGA and QVGA devices and can be used to boot Android from both the internal and external storage (microSD) cards. Pocketnow has published a video, along with step by step instructions on how to get it to work. The instructions on how to dual boot your Windows phone with Windows Mobile and Android are as follows. 1. First get Android for your device and load the files onto a storage card. The easiest way to do this is to find the Android thread within the ROM Development forum of your device over at XDA . At the end of this post we’ll provide direct links for the more popular devices. 2. Download Gen.Y DualBOOT (choose the file based on your screen resolution) and install to main memory. 3. Reboot your device. You should be presented with the bootloader screen after a few seconds (once core Windows Mobile files are loaded). We’re hearing reports that for some device, this doesn’t happen. If that is the case, you’ll have to manually launch dualBOOT (not as fun, we know) by going to /Program Files/Gen.Y. If the instructions posted above seems complicated to you, then you can give one of the custom Windows Mobile ROMs a try which has all the necessary stuff cooked into the ROM to dual boot Windows Mobile and Android from your Windows phone. Details on the custom ROM can be found at the BlogsDNA site.
